The Holland Varsity Soccer Team hosted conference rival Unity Christian on Wednesday night and won 3-0. Armando Gonzales opened the scoring with a header served by Odis Fickel in the first half. A few minutes later, Ryland VanderPloeg was tripped in the penalty area and Odis Fickel converted the penalty kick. The second half was back and forth until the last 8 minutes when Luis Parra slotted a pass to Josiah VanHekken who hit a shot from distance. "Unity Christian is an excellent program," said Holland coach Greg Ceithaml. "As defending state champions, we knew this was going to be a challenge. I liked the way our team defended and transitioned. We are happy with the result, but we know we have to stay focused on improvement." Holland is now 5-1. In Junior Varsity action, the Holland JV team defeated Unity 2-0. The JV team is now 5-0.
