The Holland High varsity tennis team hosted the Division 3-13 regional tournament on Friday. It was a full day of tennis, as the first matches started at 8:30am and the final ball was hit at 7:00pm. South Christian and East Grand Rapids finished in a tie for first with 20 points. Unity Christian was third with 14 points. All three teams, along with Zeeland East's #1 singles, will move onto the state finals. Holland finished in 6th place with 8 points. The Dutch were led by their #4 doubles team, Mason Hart and Josiah VanFarowe, who were crowned regional champions, after defeating South Christian, 6-2, 7-6(4) in the championship match. Also earning points for the Dutch were Floyd Webb (2 points), Harper Prutch and Graham VanFaasen (1 point), and Royce Cano and Will Lubbers (1 point). "This is a very tough regional and I thought we played well," said Holland coach Kyle Kreps. "There are no free points in this event and the guys were able to leave the court with their heads held high." Hart and VanFarowe are Holland's first regional champions since 2012. Today marks the end of the 2024 season for the Dutch. We are forever grateful for the contributions of seniors Royce Cano, Peyton Lehman, Harper Prutch, Christian Ramirez, and Harper Prutch.
