Tennis falls to Hudsonville, 8-1

The Holland High varsity tennis team hosted Hudsonville on Tuesday afternoon. In the non-conference and non-regional match, the Dutch were defeated by a score of 8-1. Holland's lone point came at #1 singles, where Ahava LeFebre stormed back to win 0-6, 6-3, 11-9; saving three match points along the way. "Hudsonville has a solid team," said Holland coach Kyle Kreps. "We did some good things, but need to play with more energy. I'm confident we'll be do just that tomorrow (against Byron Center)." Lena D'Addona, Holland - Emma Palmateer, Holland, 3-6 , 6-2 , 10-3 ; In JV action, Holland traveled to Hudsonville. Imagyn VanVeen and Kiara Chapman beat Hudsonville's #1 doubles team in a tight match, after losing a close first set, 7-5. They fought back in the second set, winning it 7-6(3), before winning the overall match in a 10 point super tiebreaker. Kimia McMullen and Abby Duzan gained the advantage with ease and won their match 6-3, 6-1. They played cohesively and strategically to take the victory. Andrea Bonilla and Rylie Solomon went head to head with Hudsonville, going back and forth with the advantage and ultimately won their 8-game proset in a tiebreaker 8-7(8). Rylie Solomon then partnered with Raquel Astua-Gomez to win 6-0. They are a team to watch in the future. The Dutch JV are 2-0 on the season.
