Dutch Baseball Splits with Holland Christian for First Win

The Holland Dutch visited the Holland Christian Maroons for a conference doubleheader Tuesday with both teams looking for their first win. The Dutch dropped Game One 7-1 after struggling to make solid contact all night, with a double by Senior Gabe Bos being their lone hit. On the mound, Senior Robby Wiersma went five innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits and a walk. He struck out four. In Game Two, the Dutch jumped to an early 3-0 lead after two innings of play. In the bottom of the forth, the Maroons loaded the bases with no outs, but three stellar defensive plays by the Dutch kept them to only one run scored. Senior Gabe Bos lead the team at the plate and on the mound to earn his and the team's first victory of the season. At the plate, Bos went 3-3 with a run scored. On the mound, he pitched a 66-pitch complete game, allowing only one run on four hits and a walk, while striking out four. Junior Jay Cantu added a hit, walk, and run to the total, Junior Tanner Kingery had a hit and a run scored, Senior Ryland Vanderploeg added a hit, and Senior Peyton Lehman had a hit and RBI to round out the day at the plate. The Dutch are 1-7 and 1-7 in the OK Black Conference. They host the Maroons for the series finale on Thursday, April 24 at 4:15 PM.
