The Holland High School wrestling team kicked off their 2024 season in impressive fashion, defeating Coopersville 63-18 in a home match at the Holland High Dome. Despite severe weather looming and forcing an early start, the Dutch showed no signs of distraction as they powered through their opponents with skill and determination. The evening featured a full slate of matches, including varsity, junior varsity, and Zeeland East squaring off against Coopersville. Holland’s JV squad also gained valuable mat time with matches against both Coopersville and Zeeland East, setting the stage for the team’s future success. For the varsity team, a parade of pins propelled the Dutch to victory. Makario Stark, Andreas Valkema, Dylan Dubois, Dylan Flores, Johnathan DeLeon, Johnny Campos, Miguel Potrero, and Damion Jordan each delivered decisive falls to secure six points apiece for Holland. Pablo Molina and Aiden Segovia capitalized on voids in their weight classes, adding another 12 points to the team’s tally. Joel Morin contributed with a hard-fought decision victory, earning three points. The guys came out focused and wrestled with heart. It’s always special to pick up a win in the Dome. With the victory, Holland improves to 1-0. Next on the schedule, the JV squad will head to Delton Kellogg this Friday for an individual tournament, while the varsity team will test their mettle at a team tournament hosted by Forest Hills Eastern. #NotLikeUs
